For the first and fortunately only time in my life, while traveling on a shoestring budget in Greece, I went hungry.  The money had run out and I had no cash, no credit, and no access to any money whatsoever.  It was a humbling and somewhat frightening experience.  I eventually got out of this sticky situation, but it was not easy.
